Whiskers
It must be so inconvenient not to be able to look down. The pigs are always losing stuff on the ground, because once it's below their eyeline and they're close to it, they can't see it anymore. But like other mammals, they have whiskers to help them detect stuff close to their faces that they can't actually see.
I think their whiskers must not be as sensitive as other animals, though. This time Bean kept giving up, and when he would turn his head to leave his whiskers would all brush the pellet. He'd realize it was there somewhere, but still not be able to find it!
