Potato and Bean Join the Family
When Guinea passed away, Fuzzy was very depressed. Fuzzy was always the more reserved and less social pig, but apparently he was relying on Guinea's outgoing and friendly nature to keep him entertained. He was having trouble eating and staying active, so we knew we needed to get new, young companions for him.
We looked at a half dozen different pet stores near us (no rescue was available at the time), and both Potato and Bean were in the first one we looked at. Potato stood out because he was active and seemed happy with the other store pigs, and he had that cute brown color and fashionable crown. Bean on the other hand was in a cage by himself and afraid to come out of the pigloo. Unfortunately when we got them home and placed them in quarantine together we found that was because Bean had ringworm. Potato was exposed and so the two of them had to stay in quarantine for more than a month before they could finally be let in together.
Potato had to endure regular bathing during that period, and the fungus and hair loss seemed to spread even faster on him. But we eventually managed to cure it with the right antifungal shampoo and very careful drying. Luckily both babies took to Fuzzy right away and started treating him as their family, although Potato was a bit less snuggly with him. We were never sure if it's because he's technically a different breed, or he was just more of an introvert.
