	Monday, December 15, 2025 Potato Potato passed away last Thursday, December 11, 2025. We are so heartbroken. It was very sudden. On Tuesday he was happy and healthy and eating well. Wednesday morning both him and Bean were sluggish getting up, so I did not observe him at breakfast before leaving for work. But that night he was visibly ill and not eating. It was too late even for the emergency departments, so I syringe fed him as best I could, and took him to the hospital first thing Thursday morning. He must have not eaten anything even Wednesday morning, because he had already developed GI stasis, which is a fatal condition guinea pigs can get when they don't eat continuously. The vet was not able to pull him through. Apparently he had developed severe dental disease, his molars had overgrown so much he was unable to swallow food. It was very shocking to me since he had been eating the day before, and I had brought him to the vet specifically to be examined for dental disease back in August, but nothing had developed yet. It just goes to show that guinea pigs need constant attention, and even then things can happen suddenly and be unpreventable. This is our second loss this year, having lost Fuzzy in March. Once again I will be posting memorial photos for Potato all week, and I will update before the end of the week about our plans for Coco Bean, who misses him dearly. We are giving Bean extra attention, heading into the holiday break, so for now he is ok spending time with his human herd.
