Bonbons
Poor Fuzzy. He's an older pig, so he has minor medical concerns. When he was seeing the vet for his sebaceous cyst and his punctured cornea, she also told us he has "impaction." Severe constipation, in other words. It's apparently common in older pigs, and it's a little different than in humans, since they have a special "fermentation sack" that just gets blocked up, so it's not immediately dangerous. It can turn dangerous if not dealt with, though, so it requires regular "maintenance." After doing this a few times, we asked the doc what we could do to reduce the frequency we need to help him out. (It's quite smelly.) She suggested special high-fiber food treats. We try not to let the other pigs have any, so we don't give them the opposite problem. But Potato noticed right away when we were opening a bag near the cage.
The vet describes Fuzzy's condition as "boar butt," since it's particularly common in male guinea pigs. And it's a catchy name, I guess.
