Stinky Bedding
And this is when we quit using paper bedding entirely and switched to using a guinea pig blanket on both sides of the cage. We had been using it on one side, and bedding on the other for a while. We figured the variety would be interesting to them, and also make the expensive liners last longer. Although bedding isn't that cheap! But then we got a bag of bedding that smelled awful. I have no idea what it was, but it smelled like sewage coming straight out of the new bag. We figured it was a bad batch, so we got a couple more bags. Three bags in a row all smelled like a public restroom. So we decided, forget it, plush liners from then on.
We were worried the smell would get caught in their pigloos and make them lose their appetites! Although the inside of their pigloos tends to stink sometimes anyway, especially if they "fill it up" a lot.
